We have a long-standing collaboration with the labs of Jan Münch and Frank Kirchhoff. Together with the lab of Warner Greene at the J. David Gladstone Institutes, our labs have together extensively characterized the effects of semen and semen factors on HIV infection, HIV microbicides, and reproductive health. Ongoing collaborations seek to identify ways to make microbicides highly effective in semen, the most common vector for HIV transmission. In a separate collaborative study, we are characterizing the effects of various HIV accessory gene products on the selectivity of HIV for infection of specific subsets of CD4+ T cells, as well as their effects on HIV-induced remodeling of infected cells.
