Our research spans a range of topics, from understanding HIV transmission and pathogenesis to deciphering the functions of mucosal factors in reproductive health. We conduct our studies using a combination of ex vivo models to direct analysis of patient samples.

HIV Pathogenesis and Cure

Mass cytometry, or CyTOF, is a powerful technology that has been used for comprehensive multiparameter characterization of immune cells.

The molecular basis by which small amounts of HIV can initiate infection in the mucosa is not well understood. We have discovered that genital and rectal fibroblasts, amongst the most abundant cells of the mucosa, potently increase HIV infection of T cells.
